Hi Harborne,
we've already done it although they are probably going to be M95 springs instead of 1Joule. We've had to supply them with locally sourced Element springs because Viva don't have anything else :( Element don't have any 1J or M90's in stock.....I thought China had everything :)

Err, sorry guys, there has been a mistake with the price quotation I received from Viva. I just got the invoice through from them and the original quote they gave me was not only incorrect but ex-works instead of FOB. Soooooooo, we are now looking at a price in the region of £320 for the Sten :( Sorry to get your hopes up on the £275 figure I quoted earlier.

will there be mg `42s on EVERY corner, and under every bush

i know id have to buy one, but would it ever see any use????

Quick update: I'll have the Viva Sten sample by the end of this week, so will take photo's and vid for you.

How do you feel about a full blued steel (or black) -made from the original plans- CO2 GBB version?

Not fussed myself.

I'd rather have a reliable AEG without a gas tank (etc)...

If I want something that cycles and goes bang I'll use my Blank Firer... a 6 foot jet of flame tends to please.

Blued steel would be nice.
Hmmm, I'm quite taken by the idea of a clattering Sten. Neill's MP44 brought a silly smile to everyone's face who had a go - but is it practical? Does practical matter when you have a silly smile?
I'll have to think about this...

the sound of clattering puts fear into the heart of the enemy! the gas tank is a bit of a pain but as chomley points out who cares when youre grinning from ear to ear?

What do you mean by 'gas tank'? A remote/external one? We are looking at internal here, either by using a gas mag or internal CO2 cartridge so the Sten will be a complete self-contained unit.

The sample Viva offering arrived in Shantou yesterday, I'm in Shanghai just now but fly back to see the sample this afternoon. I'll see if I can do a basic vid-review on my findings and post it up on YouTube later, if not, more photos.

Cheers

The review was completed tonight but I can't upload it at the moment. It turns out that YouTube has been banned in China as of this week and it's going to take 24 hours to upload the 223meg file up to my private server. I leave for the UK tomorrow morning and will be in HK all day tomorrow, so I'll give it a bash from there. If not, then it's going to have to be Tuesday night UK time.....

A brief roundup however, is it is deffo not worth the money in my opinion. Serious issues with the trigger switch and ejection-port cover, cocking bolt. They have cheapened it's manufacture by using low quality switches and thin aluminium. For the dosh they are demanding, they could have microswitched it and put a steel ejection port cover in. More will be revealed in the vid...

Cheers
Steve

I may be "down" £350 but at least I'll have a Sten and I'm sure the little faults can be put right, so I'm not upset on the word of one man (no matter how well informed). Let's wait until we have them before passing judgement, shall we?

I got a bit confused by Steve's post - but I'm pretty sure this is a review of the AGM prototype they are sorting, not the VIVA one in transit to us.
